| appearance B is a strikingly thin and pale young man, verging on the point of looking unhealthy or undead. His features are fairly rounded, but his limbs are lanky. His eyes are a bright red not normally seen in nature, and seem almost to glow in dark lights, but he frequently wears black contacts to mask this fact. There are usually dark bags under his eyes from lack of sleep, which are often enhanced by a small amount of makeup, giving him an appearance that has been described as 'panda-like.' His standard outfit is a loose white long-sleeved shirt and a pair of baggy blue jeans. He walks with a decided slouch and sits with his knees pulled up to his chest. update;; B now wears paler makeup than before, laced with blue glitter. His hair has been through a blue wash, tinting it very slightly. personality B is a decidedly strange man in many ways, some of which are evident from one's first glance – his terrible posture, his odd way of holding things, his overly formal yet oddly blunt speech, his lack of respect for personal space, and his decided fondness for sweets in vast quantities (although he favors jam over cake). These are all of the traits he's adopted from L, and for most people, this is all they will ever see of B – the eccentric yet brilliant detective that may act inappropriately but is still always the best choice to solve any given case. However, B's true personality (buried after too many years of playing L) is very different. B is a man who feels emotions strongly, perhaps almost too strongly, and he is controlled by passion. He is obsessed with the idea of L and with the man himself, and still maintains a small, well-hidden shrine to the man. He's a killer, but he's not a bad person, just a damaged boy seeking to gain L's notice in the only way he knows how. (Because even if L is dead, he still feels like he has to push himself in order not to fail the man.) He would do anything – anything – to bring L back, even though he claims that what happened was necessary for him to succeed. He now feels that he's living for two people – L and A – and the pressure is quickly becoming too much for his already-fragile mind to take. update;; With L and Kimi's departures from Econtra, B (who was starting to redevelop his personal identity) has completely snapped. He has no recollection of ever being B, and has completely adopted L's identity as his own. He acts as Yamaraja/L did immediately before his departure, meaning that he is kind to the children of Wammy's House but quite cruel to those who attempt to harm them. Because his idea of L is cemented as Yamaraja, it will be nearly impossible for any other L to convince him that they are anything other than an alternate. His memories are, of course, patchy, as he doesn't know everything L did at Econtra, but he is adept at quickly filling in any gaps and oddities before he begins to consciously worry about them. strengths & abilities B's primary ability – which seems to be naturally born – is that he has the eyes of a shinigami, or God of Death. This means that he can see the names and lifespans of those he meets, as long as he sees their full face. In addition, he can usually see the shinigami themselves. Mentally, he's a brilliant man, with reasoning and deductive skills that few can match – he may not be exactly at L's level, but he is still much more intelligent than most of the population. weaknesses B is a mass of complexes and neuroses, and it's easy to trigger a reaction in him despite his calm exterior if the right subjects are brought up – A and L in particular. He's emotionally unstable, and can go from rage to sorrow to sick glee in moments flat in stressful situations. His obsession with L can easily be manipulated, and he will make stupid and dangerous moves in order to gain L's respect and notice. In short, he is constantly on the verge of (or possibly already into) insanity. weapons B has with him a long, sharp knife, which is covered in blood at his arrival. history Beyond Birthday's early childhood is a mystery, even to himself. His earliest memories are all of orphanages, of other boys whispering about how strange the pale boy with the red eyes was. For all he knows, his parents could've been anything – maybe even demons, given his eyes. He spent most of his time until he was five hiding alone in his room, avoiding others. However, one day a man came by the orphanage and explained to the children that there was a special orphanage opening for children with certain talents, and that there would be a test offered for entrance. Beyond desperately wanted to leave the place he was in behind, so he took the tests, passed with ease, and quickly found himself at Wammy's House in Winchester, England as one of the first successors to the great detective known as 'L'. He was given the alias B, and told that he would have to avoid his real name and the real names of others from now on. Realizing that this could be problematic, he explained carefully about his eyes, about the fact that there was no way to hide others' names from him. He asked if it would be a problem. They stared blankly at him, and then laughed nervously and changed the subject. B decided to avoid it from then on. Fairly rapidly, the orphanage stratified into clear ranks and positions in line behind L. B found himself at the rank of second, and quickly began to work more often with the first, A, since they were often given similar assignments. A turned out to be a nice boy who didn't seem to mind all of the little things that made B creepy – his red eyes, his cackling laugh, his slightly twisted smile. As years passed, the two grew closer and closer, and eventually A decided that they were both going to work as L together someday. Only half-jokingly, they began to refer to each other as "Luxaky" and "Lue", since the initials together were L and L. They would be twice L. And they might've done so, if A hadn't snapped under pressure and hung himself in front of B, telling the boy as he died about how B would be the better successor. For a month or so after it happened, B was simply in shock. They were meant to surpass L, to be more than L… and now he was alone. Eventually, though, he came to a conclusion. He could surpass L alone. He could be more than L. He could beat L, break L, make L realize that he was the inferior one. And so he left the Orphanage and changed his appearance through intense plastic surgery to resemble L's in every respect. Once that was complete, he began a killing spree in Los Angeles, intending to draw L's interest, make him work on the case, make certain that L knew who was doing it… and then not leave any proof or any evidence of the murderer's existence. B understood that L hated losing, and he knew that knowing the culprit but not being able to stop him would drive L mad. He didn't kill for joy or pleasure, and he only killed those who were soon to die anyways, but he enjoyed it all because he knew that he could win. To further increase his glee, he even worked with the FBI agent that L had gotten to work the case, Naomi Misora. But something went wrong on L's side, and he ended up having to visit Naomi personally. But Naomi was away to do shopping when L arrived at the crime scene, and B met him alone. For a moment, they merely stared at each other, but then something in B took over and he lunged and pinned L to the ground and – He never intended it to happen. He just wanted to see L bleed a little, to see that pure ivory skin marred with scarlet. He wanted to see fear in L's eyes. But L was fighting too hard, and the knife slipped, and within moments there was nothing in L's eyes at all. At first, B panicked. He held L's corpse, he screamed at L to wake up, to open his eyes again so B could surpass him, because what was the point in surpassing a corpse? What was the point in spending all your life on someone for it all to come to this? (And something else hurt too, a pain that he could not describe, like his heart was shattering again just like it had when A's noose drew tight.) But slowly he came to the realization that now he had surpassed L. After all, he was the successor, and now it was time for him to do just that. He had to become L even more perfectly than before, to fill the gap in the universe made by the man's passing. When Naomi returned to the crime scene several hours later, it was to find the same Luxaky Lue she had been working with. A few days later, 'L' called her to inform her that the culprit had been caught and that her services were no longer needed. She never saw Luxaky or heard from L again after that. B began to live L's life, solve L's cases, and in every other way perfectly duplicate L. A few people at the orphanage (Quillish Wammy in particular) could tell there had been a change, but none of them could place what it was. After all, surely L had always looked like that, always sat like that, always talked like that. Who else could it be? A few years after that, the Kira murders (criminals all dying of inexplicable heart attacks) began, and 'L', of course, took the case. He used most of the same methods the original would have – he used criminals in his own place (Lind L, such an amusing name to him), he acted with almost strange abandon, and otherwise acted much as L would have. And when he placed security cameras in Light Yagami's home, he noticed two things immediately: the boy did not have a lifespan, according to his eyes, and there was some form of monster in the boy's room with him. Immediately, without explaining himself to the task force, he switched the entire investigation to focus on Light. Quickly he found himself confronting the other man face-to-face at university, where B had enrolled under a false name, and the shinigami's comments (clearly meant for Light's ears only) confirmed what B had suspected – that Light Yagami was Kira. At first, B tried to ignore the fact he knew and simply progress with the case – after all, he couldn't exactly use his knowledge of the shinigami in court. But after only a few months, he began to grow angry at the boy – he was hiding it too well. It reminded B uncomfortably of himself, and he would not let anyone surpass him like he had surpassed L all that time ago. And he was not nearly as patient as L. And so one night, he invited Light to a small theater to 'review evidence on the Kira case'. When Light arrived, B greeted him fondly, shook his hand – and then used his other hand to drive a knife directly into the man's throat. As the artery severed and blood began to flow freely, B blinked and found himself somewhere else.  This is a role-playing journal for Econtra by Aisu.
